Can I get ebooks through ILL?

In most cases, no.

Many ebooks are licensed to specific IP addresses and generally cannot be sent electronically to a different location.
 

More Details

Some library databases may allow a whole book to be downloaded and sent as a PDF. These materials are usually open access, available online without having to request them via Interlibrary Loan. Books like this are typically limited to certain subject areas, including:

  • - Science
  • - Medicine
  • - Technology
  • - Humanities
  • - Social science

Many subject areas will not be available through ILL due to the above-mentioned licensing issues. Chambers Library cannot borrow any book that is digitally published on Amazon, Libby, or Barnes & Noble Press (Nook). Subjects typically not available through ILL include:

  • - Popular fiction
  • - Popular non-fiction
  • - Reference guides
  • - Test preparation
  • - Course textbooks
